Is Decompression the Answer to Chronic Low Back Pain?

Suffering from chronic low back pain? You definitely are not alone. And like most you have no doubt tried a variety of treatments.

The disc by far is the main cause of low back pain. Research has indicated that the majority of cases are attributed to disc pain. The second most common reason for back pain is facet joint pain followed by SI joint pain.

Many people who experience low back pain can’t recall what they did to hurt themselves. This is because the disc is only pain sensitive in the outer 1/3. So as the inner portion of the disc migrates outwards no pain is felt, until the outer pain sensitive zone is contacted. Then pain can come on very quickly and seemingly without cause.

Another major issue about the disc is the fact that it doesn’t have a direct blood supply. It receives nutrition from the blood supply in the bones above and below. This is achieved through a pumping mechanism that creates a fluid exchange. Once the disc is damaged however, the disc loses it’s ability to maintain hydration and it becomes dry and brittle over time.

One of the most dangerous consequences of disc degeneration is that as the disc loses hydration it becomes infiltrated with pain sensitive nerves. So no longer is just the outer 1/3 pain sensitive but the entire disc becomes painful.

The most common treatments for low back pain don’t address this issue. Only one actually increases the amount of hydration into the disc and that is spinal decompression. This treatment accelerates the amount of hydration that goes into the disc so that the disc can regenerate.

The mechanism behind spinal decompression is very complex, although many will tell you it looks similar to traction. The difference is that unlike traction, spinal decompression has a patented computer system that analyzes muscle contraction responses and changes the forces to overcome muscle contraction.

Spinal decompression creates 2 desirable effects for the disc. One is that is draws in any herniated or bulging material centrally to decrease nerve compression or irritation. And secondly it brings in a fresh supply of nutrition so that the raw materials are present for the disc to heal.

Unlike most treatment that are primarily concerned with the symptoms spinal decompression actually deals with the primary source of the patients pain, which in most cases is the disc.

Spinal decompression can offer you a real solution to your pain, especially if you have tried other treatments that have failed. You need to look into it, if you are still suffering and would like a long term benefit.
