Zorb – Roll Downhill In A Giant Inflatable Ball
Looking for something different and out of the ordinary to try? If you have never heard of zorbing, this is your chance to try something out of the ordinary. It is a recreational activity where you roll downhill inside what looks like a giant plastic hamsterball for humans. This activity also goes by the name of “sphereing” or “globe riding”.
What is the zorb made out of? It is made out of a flexible and transparent plastic. There are two layers of plastic, and in between the outer and the inner layer of plastic is air, which acts as a shock absorber and makes the ride smoother for the people rolling downhill inside of it. Zorbing usually takes place on a gentle slope, although it also can be done on flat land.
People of all ages can enjoy and have enjoyed this activity. You may ride inside of it two different ways. You can ride without harnesses or with harnesses. First you must crawl through the only opening to the inside of the zorb. Then you are harnessed in so when you roll down you are stuck to the side of the ball. If you wanted to go without harnesses you can ride with water in the ball, which makes the experience very different. Instead of being harnessed in, you get wet and freely slide inside of the ball as you roll down.
How many people can ride inside of one of these at a time? Up to three riders can ride inside of a zorb. If there are three riders they have to ride without using harnesses. You can choose to ride with harnesses or without harnesses if there are two or less riders.
There are very few official locations where you can try zorbing. What do I mean by “official”? Well to ensure their product is used safely, the company that manufactures zorbs has strict rules that they make sure are followed at their official locations. If the location doesn’t meet their guidelines, they don’t sell their zorbs to them.
It may still be a rare experience to get to try zorbing because of the few locations that offer it, but if you ever happen to be in the area of an official zorb location, many people who have tried it recommend you try it at least once.
