What Is True Happiness And How Do We Achieve It
How can we be happy? This isnt a particularly common question in our minds as at some point in most days, there will be a time where we feel very happy, but Im talking about a deeper happiness than that, a feeling that is constant and doesnt simply come and go with different day to day situations. And Im not talking about spiritual stuff either, although quite a few people have found happiness that way.
If you were to look at someone who is truly happy, you would see that they are happy in spite of challenges, rather than happy because they have no challenges. They will want to embrace whatever is coming their way rather than worry about it.
For many of us, being happy is dependant on possessions. For example, a child is always happy when they have sweets or an ice cream in their hands and it is the same way for many people all over the world, we decide we want something in our minds, and then when we get it, we feel happy. This feeling is of course though only temporary as when we get used to owning something, the happy feeling we got when we first had it fades away and we begin to want something else, and so the cycle goes. True happiness, I should probably mention, depends on you being free of any insecurities whatsoever. As long as we worry about the things we have and dont have and how long we will have it, we will never be truly happy. That is why there are billionaires out there who are miserable and get counselling for depression.
When we are not insecure from inside, we have no reason to be unhappy, really. All the gurus have said the same thing ” in all the religions of the world, and they are all fundamentally correct. The teachings of todays self help masters also focuses around that aspect. However, most of the people attending those sessions walk out temporarily motivated, and not permanently inspired to be happy. For a week or so everything will seem rosy; and then it will start wearing off. For the happiness to remain constant, the teachings should not just be put into practice, but imbibed into their regular schedules. It is not really difficult!
The first step in the right direction would be when we attend a series of sessions (not just lectures) by a coach who is genuinely happy. Find that person, and you will be doing yourself a great favor!
