Invisalign’ Transparent Teeth Aligners

Teeth straightening braces are fairly common among young people, usually children from around ten years old to sixteen years old. They usually carry connotations of unpopularity in school and the children that wear them have been known to fall prey to playground bullies.

There is another way however, it is called Invisalign and I will go through the good points and the bad points of this treatment during the course of this article. Invisalign is basically a transparent plastic outline of your teeth that you wear over them and it straightens your teeth much like a traditional brace but without the unappealing mouth of metal.

The first benefit of Invisalign is obvious, it looks far more attractive. There is no metal running across your teeth with Invisalign, it is a see through case for your teeth which is almost impossible to see and so you can undergo teeth straightening treatment without anyone knowing.

The second benefit of Invisalign is that they are removable which metal braces are not; therefore they do not hinder everyday oral activities like eating and brushing your teeth.

So with the visually pleasing transparency as well as how easy it is to take out and put back in, as well as claims that the Invisalign solution is more comfortable than a brace, these aligners are becoming more and more popular among adults who want their teeth straightened but do not like the idea of the brace because it may make them feel and look like a child.

The downsides of Invisalign moulds includes one of the advantages. The fact that the aligners are removable is double-edged in that yes, you can remove them making eating and brushing etc. easier during the treatment, but that means the ones teeth are not permanently being aligned unlike with traditional braces and the overall effectiveness of the treatment depends on the patients personal habits and their consistency and dedication to it.

Another reason that Invisalign may not be the answer to your dental prayers is that it is fairly pricey and for most people, if they’re serious about straightening their teeth, then the traditional braces might be the best option, at least until the prices drop a bit.

The aligners themselves are not made of simple plastic, it is made of an implantable grade polyurethane and although very rare, this material has been known to induce allergic and toxic reactions such as sore throat and swelling which in some extremely rare cases has passed down to the wind passages. This, as I mentioned, is a very rare occurrence and usually the results of the Invisalign aligners are very straight, nearly perfect teeth, as long as you use them exactly as instructed and don’t mind paying out for them.
